George R. Ahrens, 90, of Pearl River, New York died on December 7, 2011 at home in the arms of his loving wife, Tommie. He was born in Mount Vernon, New York to Charlotte and Henry Ahrens. After graduating from Pearl River High School, George served in the Air Corps as a navigator. He flew B17s and was stationed in Podington, England during World War II. When he returned from the war, he was stationed in Nebraska where he met the love of his life. George and Tommie were married November 18, 1945. He retired from the Air Force Reserves as a Major in 1981. George worked his entire career for New York Life Insurance. He retired as Assistant Vice President in the actuary department in 1983. George is survived by his devoted wife off 66 years, Lucy (Tommie); his adoring three children, Charlou (Richard) Woodrow, Ray (Sara), and Debbie (Tom) Joyce; eight wonderful grandchildren, Danielle, Michael (Stacey), Dylan, Ryan, Kate, Stephanie, Justin, and Meghann; and one terrific great grandson, Eli. He leaves a legacy of good deeds, wonderful stories, loving friends and family. His was a life well lived. Visitation will be on Friday December 9 from 2-4 pm at the Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home at 100 Franklin Avenue, Pearl River, NY. The funeral will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 10 at The United Methodist Church, 130 Franklin Avenue, Pearl River, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The United Methodist Church of Pearl River.
