Surrounded and lovingly embraced by family, Betti (Rose) Babine of Marblehead, died peacefully on October 20th, 2011 after a graceful and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on June 6th, 1934 to the late Mildred (Olson-Rose) St. Coeur and Harold Rose, she spent her childhood years in Providence, R.I and later years in Cambridge, MA. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1952 and attended Endicott College eventually applying to B.U. to pursue her passion in biology/science as a Medical Photographer and researcher.
Known as one of “The Five Honest Ladies” at The Good Buy Antiques- a Pleasant Street staple for over 15 years- Betti was able to continue her passion for ‘research’ and made amazing friends along the way. She later became the publisher of “Mass. Bay Antiques”. Betti raised her seven children on her own instilling the same work ethic that she lived her life by each and every day.
Her retirement years were abundant with travel-(spending many winters in Vieques, P.R with great friends), playing bridge, gardening, cooking, reading, and enjoying life to its fullest with family and friends. She loved Boston Sports teams and was especially devoted to the Red Sox- win or lose. Betti lived her life believing that, at any age, there were always new adventures to be had.
Betti loved animals and volunteered many hours at the Vieques Humane Society rescuing and placing dogs with loving families. Her beloved dog, Willie, is a true testament to her efforts and devotion.
She will be forever loved by her 7 children; Lindsey Burke and her husband, Paul; Susan Babine and her husband Doug Gordon; Ned Babine; Julie Castner; Bob Babine and his wife, Martina; Jennifer Smith and her husband David, and Peter Babine and his wife, Krista.
In addition to her children, “Nana”, “NooNoo”, “Grammy”, “Nana Willie”, will be equally loved and missed by her grandchildren Casey and Molly Burke; Lia Castner ; Olivia Babine; Samantha and Madelyn Babine; Tessa, Sophia, and Annabelle Smith; Bryce and Brady Babine.
Betti was predeceased by her grandchildren Krista and Allie Castner.
