Joseph Edwin Bross, 74, of Clare, Ill., died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, following a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born Sept. 27, 1937, in DeKalb, the son of Joseph and Eva Viola (Jacobson) Bross, Joe married Maryann B. Sanderson on Oct. 26, 1958, at First Lutheran Church, DeKalb.
He was the owner, with his wife, of the Complete Sheep Shoppe in rural Clare since 1984. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he was a 1955 graduate of DeKalb High School. Joe was employed as a pilot for DeKalb Ag for more than 10 years, as a flight instructor at the Rockford and DeKalb airports, and in farming.
Joe was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore, where he served on the church council. He also was a charter member of the DeKalb County Lamb & Wool Producers.
He is survived by his wife, Maryann; children, Ronald Bross, Gary (Lori) Bross and Michael E. (Angela) Bross, both of Clare, and Jodi (Bill) Fletcher of Woodinville, Wash.; grandchildren, Anna, Evan, Mason, David, Jake and Madison; sister, Gloria Durr of Sycamore; several nieces and nephews ; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at Salem Lutheran Church, 1145 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, with the Rev. Robert C. Kinnear and diaconal minister Judy Bergeson officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb, with full military rites provided by DeKalb County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Anderson Funeral Home.
