Stacie Lynn Bowers, born Feb. 1, 1971, in Elgin, Ill., died Sept. 20, 2011, in DeKalb of complications from epilepsy.

Despite being diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of the 3 and undergoing five brain surgeries, Stacie lived a productive and happy life. She loved her family, friends and her service dogs; she enjoyed her work at Northern Illinois University in Intercollegiate Athletics. Jeff Compher, NIU athletic director, said, “Stacie was an inspiration to our student-athletes because of her willing spirit and her good nature.”

Stacie also enjoyed reading, crafts, and spending time on her computer.

She is survived by her mother, Colleen Bowers, of DeKalb; her brother, Eric (April) Bowers; niece, Jenna; service dog, Jagger; and numerous relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Phillip D. Bowers; and her first service dog, Cosby.

Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to call, from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at 1433 Reserve Lane, DeKalb, to celebrate Stacie’s life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Stacie Lynn Bowers Memorial Fund, in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb, IL 60115.
