John W. Gariepy, 94, passed away May 24, 2011 in Woodstock, IL. He was born July 3, 1916 in Chicago.
He attended Northwestern University before enlisting in the Navy during WWII. John earned his law degree from DePaul University where he was a member of Delta Theta Pi, Warvelle Senate. He was a lifelong member of the American Bar Association. He worked for Continental Insurance in IL, OH, CA and Montreal PQ, Canada retiring as Western Regional Vice President in San Francisco.
John served his community wherever he resided. As a tribute to his community activism, John had a park and street named after him in Dollard de Ormeaux, Quebec. John was a longtime resident of Lombard, serving as Trustee of the Village Board and Republican Committeeman in DuPage County.
In recent years he resided in Fort Myers, FL where he served as president of the homeowners assn. at Royal Woods.
He is survived by his daughters, Margo Rogalin Gariepy and Susan Gariepy (Henn) Johnson; his daughter-in-law, Billie; his grandsons John William and Paul Louis, and his great-grandson John Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Hazel and his son John Louis.
