John P. Bellavance, of Lebanon, NH, died at home on May 20, 2011 after a brief battle against cancer . He was born in Hardwick, Vermont, a son of Napolean & Clarida (Leclerc) Bellavance. His family moved to Lebanon in 1938.
His children attribute his fun-loving demeanor to his being raised among a family of 13 spirited children where the best prank got you the most notice.
He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 18 and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia where he served from 1948 to 1952.
He met his future wife, Joanne Pinard, and they were married on November 3, 1951.
He worked for Nabisco for many years until they closed operations in the mid 70s. He then went to work for his brother Gerry Bellavance hauling produce from the New England Produce Center in Boston, MA. In 1984 Mr. Bellavance started a family-operated wholesale produce business, Upper Valley Produce, which he sold in 2008. In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, making wind chimes, and feeding the birds. He was also a member of the American Legion.
Mr. Bellavance leaves behind his wife of nearly 60 years, Joanne Bellavance; two daughters, Rita Conley (Dave) and Mary Blain (Stuart), both of Canaan, NH; two sons, John Bellavance (Brenna) of Lebanon, NH and James Bellavance of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren April Stone (Bill), Christopher Harlow (Teresa), Riana Bellavance, Amanda Bellavance, Shannon and Jon Conley; and great grandchildren Cameron Cossingham and Kayden Bellavance; and his best friend Buddy, a Maltese, age 10, also of Lebanon. He also leaves behind five brothers, Fred Bellavance of Bridgeport, CT, Robert Bellavance (Leta) of Berlin, NH, Roland Bellavance (Barbara) of Wilder, VT, Adrian Bellavance (Sandy) and Raymond Bellavance (Mary) of Lebanon, NH; and four sisters, Cecile Carr (Gene) of Lebanon, NH, Margaret Bates (Wayne) of Lyme, NH, Madeline Edwards (Dan) of Enfield, NH and Pauline Grant of West Canaan, NH and sister-in-law Arlene Bellavance of Lebanon, NH. He was predeceased by his brothers Agenor Bellavance, Gerard Bellavance, and Julian Bellavance.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours at Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon Tuesday, May 24th from 1:00 - 3:00 PM and 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday, May 25th at 10:00 AM in Lebanon, NH.
