Donald Cardwell (65) of New Milford, CT. Don’s fight with cancer is over and he is up in Heaven smiling down. He died peacefully on May 5 surrounded by his loving family.
Donald Cardwell was born in Ohio to parents Harold and Dorothy Cardwell. Preceded in death by his brother Harold Cardwell, Jr. and his parents Dorothy and Harold. After high school graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served in the Vietnam Conflict. A few years after his discharge, he found himself in Marysville, Ohio, working for the Nestle Corporation until his retirement a few years ago from the New Milford operation. Outside his family, Don loved his work. He was a self-taught computer whiz. He traveled the world for Nestle enjoying the chance to extend his circle of friends to Switzerland. While working for Nestle, Don was proud to obtain two patents for his work.
Of course, the most important part of his life was his family. He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of nearly 35 years, Connie; his sons Matt (wife Stefanie) and Mark; and finally, his beautiful granddaughter and the apple of his eye Sofia. Both of his sons loved and respected their dad and are following in his footsteps choosing technology based careers.
Don will be remembered for his fiery spirit, his wonderful sense of humor, his winning way from cards to racquetball to life in general. He loved photography and cars and birds. Don had a zest for living that we all can learn from and never forget. He was a loving father and grandfather, a devoted husband, a proud Marine and a devout Christian.
There will be a Wake on Tuesday May 10 from 6pm to 9pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Road, New Milford. A celebration of his life will be held at 10am on Wednesday, May 11 at Northville Baptist Church, 9 Little Bear Hill Road, New Milford, with burial to follow.
