Audrey Jeanice Brown, 89, of DeKalb, Ill., died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center, DeKalb.
Born Oct. 26, 1921, in Pontiac, the daughter of Merton and Florence (Brunskill) Baughman, she was baptized and confirmed at Grace Episcopal Church in Pontiac and graduated from Pontiac Township High School. She was a secretary in the Secretary of State office in Springfield, where she met her future husband, Robert E. Brown. They were married Feb. 10, 1946, in Pontiac, and were blessed with two daughters, Pamela and Deborah.
Audrey was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, DeKalb, active in Altar Guild and Meals on Wheels. She worked as a secretary for the DeKalb County Special Education Association and DeKalb School District 428 for many years. In later years, she was a volunteer at Kishwaukee Community Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; daughters, Pamela (Michael) Baker and Deborah (Stephen) Duerst; five grandchildren, Matthew Baker, Marcus Baker, Lucas Duerst, Michael Duerst and Emily Duerst; five great-grandchildren, Mason, Jackson, Carson, Finley Audrith and Graham; and a sister and a brother, Dolores (Roy) Denker and James (Charis) Baughman, both of Tucson, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Merton Clay Baughman.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 900 Normal Road, DeKalb, with the Rev. Stacy Walker-Frontjes officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday. Audrey’s family will receive family and friends at a reception following the service at the church.
Cremation has taken place at Anderson Funeral Home Crematory, DeKalb.
