PEORIA, Ariz. - Bette Iris Beyer, 61, of Peoria, Ariz., passed away Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at home.
Born July 4, 1949, in Chicago, Ill., to Robert Benson Sr., who preceded her in death, and Iris (Laughinghouse) Benson, she grew up in Westchester, and graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School in 1967. She later graduated from Northern Illinois University with a nursing degree and worked at Kishwaukee Community Hospital as an obstetrics nurse for three decades, during which time she raised four children and was very active with First Lutheran Church.
In 2005, she retired to Phoenix, Ariz., while continuing to practice nursing and became involved with the Atonement Lutheran Church of Glendale, Ariz. Through her nursing, devotion to church and benevolent nature, she touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Trina) Beyer of Bellevue, Neb., Stephanie (Todd) Henzi of Peoria, Ariz., Steve (Lisa) Beyer of Chandler, Ariz., and Kari Beyer-Scarbrough of DeKalb; grandchildren, Nathan, Jakob, Tyler, Connor, Ryan, Katelyn and a baby due in March; her mother, Iris Benson of Bella Vista, Ark.; her siblings, Robert (Marilyn) Benson Jr. of Gurnee, Barbara Benson of Knoxville, Tenn., Bill (Phyllis) Benson of Elgin and Bruce (Debbie) Benson of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at First Lutheran Church, DeKalb, with reception to follow. Burial will be at Chapel Hills Garden Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
