James W. “Jimmy” Borden, 87, of Rockford departed this earthly life Thursday, January 20, 2011 in his home after a long illness. He was born April 13, 1923 in Talladega, Alabama the son of James and Gladys Borden. He lived in Rockford since 1952 coming from Alabama. He married the former Katherine Barbary, she preceded him in death. He was last employed by Gunite Foundry over 30 years before retiring. James was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church serving as a Usher, and in the Male Chorus. He was a member of the Welcome Star Lodge #36 PHA, and a member of the Princess Zorah Eastern Star. He attended schools in Alabama. James leaves to cherish many memories, son E.J. (Pat) Borden of Michigan, a host of grand, great and great great grandchildren; one sister, Naomi Calhoun, two brothers, Melvin Borden, and Bishop (Bettie) Borden; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, two daughters, three sisters, and two brothers. Services will be held 11:00a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Macedonia Baptist Church 1720 Perry Bennett Way former Moran Street. Visitation will be held Friday 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home 2429 W. State Street. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Special thanks to Dr. Craig Rogers for the care given to James.
