Welcome to the J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels.Our philosophy was to create non-profit Jewish funeral homes with greatly reduced pricing and superior service in the Apter family tradition (as our great grandfather did when he founded Philip Apter and Son in 1902). Our mission is to serve and financially assist the Jewish communities of Essex, Morris, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren counties by lowering the cost and maintaining the dignity of the funeral, while donating to the Jewish community and working with all families to best provide them an affordable and memorable service.

From every funeral that J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels conducts, we donate up to $500* to either the family's synagogue or a Jewish service organization in our community. The locations of J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels permit us to serve those counties centrally, with ease of access to all airports, hospitals and synagogues.

Our pricing structure allows us to offer funerals from $4695* including up to a $500* donation as previously described.We are family managed and operated and answer only to our client families, unlike other corporate chapels with shareholders and layers of mangement to pay, which increase the funeral costs.
To aide in the logistical issues of arranging funerals, J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels offer and encourage at-need and pre-need arrangement conferences in the family home. This allows all family members, especially those unable to easily travel, to partake in the funeral arrangements without the feeling of any sales pressure.

We offer estate settlement/investment re-registration,elder care planning, elder care advocates and grief counseling referrals. We are also now pleased to offer valet parking services for chapel and synagogue funerals,as well as houses of shiva. In addition, our newest location at 415 Morris Avenue in Springfield is now open.

Finally,if you or someone you know has a pre-arranged funeral with another chapel, please call us for a complimentary review. We may be able to offer the same service at a reduced cost and, perhaps, refund the difference to you. Even at time of death, a pre-arranged funeral can be transferred and a cost savings may occur.
