Welcome Image

Welcome to Unger-Horner Funeral Home online. We have added this web site to better provide for families before and at their time of need. On our website you will find many different resources to inform you about us, and our funeral and cremation services.

We take great pride in knowing that our family has served this community and your families continuously since 1861. When a person decides to become a Funeral Director, they do so knowing that it is a calling to help people. Helping people during their most difficult of times is not easy for us, but is often those times that we are reminded of the great importance our care is to the families we serve, and that we are blessed to do so.

Don Horner has followed his father, Fred F. Horner’s footsteps by bringing two of his sons into the family business. Chad Unger Horner joined the family’s funeral home in September of 1995 after graduating from Illinois State University and then Worsham College of Mortuary Science, and now Don’s youngest son: Derek Don Horner, has joined the Unger Horner Funeral Home in March of 2006 after graduating from Eastern Illinois University and Worsham College of Mortuary Science. Both Chad and Derek will be the 6th generation to serve this community.

We offer families many options in services and a wide range in burial and cremation products. A persons lifetime touches so many other peoples' lives, so in June we began offering video tributes as a way to express one’s life through pictures and music. The personalized video tribute is then displayed at our facility on a state of the art, large, easy to view screen. We further added equipment to record the funeral or memorial service on a DVD for the family to watch and listen to later or for those family members that may not be able to make it to the actual service. With so many emotions in such a short period of time, we realize that many times the family is just unable to fully receive the ministers message of support and comfort for their loss, but later with the DVD, and after the waves of emotions have eased somewhat, they are more receptive to that message of comfort and support.

Don, Fred, Chad, and Derek Horner are here to help you, whether its for your immediate time of need, preplanning, or to help you design a lasting memorial at the cemetery. We at the Unger Horner Funeral Home are here to answer any of your questions and to serve you and your family.
