Roller Hapgood & Tinney Funeral Home

Our Company

Established in 1899, Roller Hapgood & Tinney is one of the oldest family owned and operated funeral homes on the Peninsula. Originally Roller & Hapgood, they acquired Tinney & Sons in 1976. A successful local funeral home for many years, the new generation of Tinney's were drawn elsewhere. To honor their many years of dedicated service, the decision was made to add the Tinney name to Roller & Hapgood.

First located at 481 University Avenue, Roller Hapgood & Tinney has been at its present location, the corner of Middlefield Road and Addison Avenue in Palo Alto, since 1951. Local architect, Leslie I. Nichols, designed a funeral home that was considered quite remarkable. To this day, families and visitors to the funeral home appreciate its many attributes, its quiet beauty, and the peaceful atmosphere.

In keeping with the wisdom of their ancestors, "good employees are essential to a successful business," their staff of licensed professionals is the best. Aside from their knowledge and professionalism, they are caring and sincere, qualities that are invaluable at the time of need. Recognizing that Palo Alto is a community rich in cultural diversity, the staff is well trained in the many traditions and faiths that surround them.

Though much has changed in the 103 years since its inception, one thing has not, their commitment to the community, the families, and the individuals they serve.
